Linear Functions (B) WORKSHEET

Suitable for Year groups: Year 8, Year 9, Year 10
GCSE Tier: Foundation/Higher
Targeting grades: 4-5
Prerequisite knowledge: Coordinates in four quadrants. Substituting into two-step expressions or formulae.
Learning Objective: Produce graphs of linear functions using equations in x and y and the Cartesian plane

Linear Functions (B) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Linear Functions (A) will review lines parallel to the x and y axis as well as introduce straight lines in the form y = mx + c.

Section A kicks off with lines parallel to the x and y axes. Pupils have to label these lines with the correct equations.

In section B, pupils will plot 12 functions on their own coordinate grids using tables of values. We have included lines with the same gradients yet different y intercepts to enable pupils to begin pattern spotting and making connections. Coordinates will be plotted in all four quadrants and four of the lines have a negative gradient. Ensure pupils are equipped with a pencil and ruler before they start drawing their straight lines.

In section C, students are given various equations and must complete three coordinates of their graphs.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

This worksheet is designed for Years 8, 9, and 10 students, making it versatile across the key stage 3 to 4 transition. The content aligns with both Foundation and Higher GCSE tiers, so it works well for mixed-ability classes or as differentiated practice. Students targeting grades 4-5 will find this particularly beneficial for consolidating their understanding of linear graphs.
