Reflections in 𝑦 = π‘₯ and 𝑦 = -π‘₯ WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet develops pupils’ understanding of reflections in the lines 𝑦 = π‘₯ and 𝑦 = -π‘₯.

In Section A, students draw each mirror line on a coordinate grid containing 26 labelled points. They identify the image of a given point after reflection in either mirror line, then record the coordinates of each object and its image. Finally, they write down what they notice, using these patterns to deduce the transformation rules.

Section B requires learners to reflect six objects across both lines of reflection. They progress from shapes aligned with the mirror line to more challenging shapes with diagonal sides, ensuring they apply the coordinate rules accurately.

Section C introduces more demanding reasoning and problem-solving tasks, where students find the coordinates of images after reflection without relying on diagrams. This includes reflecting individual points as well as full squares, requiring them to apply transformation rules consistently and justify their results.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.
