Reinforce the concepts of area, radius, height, and the properties of circles and rectangles whilst gaining a new skill with this worksheet.
Section A provides a reminder of calculating the area and circumference of a circle when a radius or a diameter is provided.
In Section B, learners are guided towards using the circumference of the cross section of the cylinder to find the length of the rectangle. Using nets, students will find the length of rectangles in three different cylinders.
Then section C sees pupils finding the surface area of 7 cylinders. This section is scaffolded to show pupils what the surface area is composed of.
Students will articulate in section D as they spot and explain the mistakes made in the calculations of finding the surface area of two cylinders, exposing some common misconceptions.
The challenge is ramped up in section E with five problem solving questions.
