Using The Fraction Wall - Equivalent Fractions WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Fraction walls are an excellent tool for learners to gain understanding of fraction size and equivalence. This worksheet asks a series of questions that act as prompts for your students to learn how to navigate a fraction wall to find equivalent fractions and encourages them to consider what equivalent fractions have in common.

Pupils will complete ‘chains’ of equivalent fractions, name fractions equivalent to ½ and ⅓ that do not appear on the wall and identify fractions that have no equivalent fractions on the wall whilst completing this worksheet.

There are more resources in our series using a fraction wall, including introducing the fraction wall, comparing fractions and adding fractions. See them in the related resources below.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your pupils need to be comfortable identifying and understanding the fractions represented by the different segments on the fraction wall before tackling equivalent fractions. This foundational skill will help them navigate between the various rows and recognise how different denominators can represent the same value. Without this prerequisite knowledge, students may struggle to make the connections needed for finding equivalences.
