Suitable for Year groups: Year 6
Learning objective: Recognise that shapes with the same areas can have different perimeters and vice versa.

Comparing Areas and Perimeters (A) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This series of differentiated worksheets enables pupils to recognise that shapes with the same areas can have different perimeters and vice versa.

This version uses pentominoes and asks pupils to find the perimeter of five of them discovering that there is an odd one out. Students will also make their own shapes using six squares on square grids to create shapes with the same area but different perimeters.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your child will develop the important understanding that shapes with identical areas can have completely different perimeters, and shapes with the same perimeter can have different areas. Through hands-on activities with pentominoes and creating their own six-square shapes, they'll discover this fascinating relationship between these two key measurements. This concept often surprises pupils and helps deepen their mathematical reasoning skills.
