Lines of Symmetry WORKSHEET

Suitable for Year groups: Year 4
Learning objective: Identify lines of symmetry in 2-D shapes presented in different orientations. Complete a simple symmetric figure with respect to a specific line of symmetry.

Lines of Symmetry WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet on ""Lines of Symmetry"" is a comprehensive guide to understanding symmetry in various shapes.

Sections A, B and C require students to complete shapes using given lines of symmetry, draw all the lines of symmetry on polygons and decide whether lines shown on shapes are lines of symmetry or not. Section A focuses on regular polygons. Students will work with irregular polygons in Section B. Everyday shapes such as road signs and letters are looked at in Section C.

Finally, the worksheet challenges learners with a series of always, sometimes or never true statements in Section D. Here students will also draw shapes on a dotty grid meeting different criteria such as “a 6 sided shape with no lines of symmetry”.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your child will develop their ability to identify lines of symmetry in 2-D shapes that are presented in different orientations, which means the shapes might be rotated or positioned differently than they're used to seeing. They'll also practise completing symmetric figures when given a specific line of symmetry, such as drawing the missing half of a shape to make it perfectly symmetrical.
