Ratio and Fractions WORKSHEET

Suitable for Year groups: Year 6
Learning objective: Understand the link between ratio and fractions

Ratio and Fractions WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Images are used in Ratio and Fractions to aid in students' understanding of ratio and fraction equivalence.

Section A starts with 3 questions about coloured counters. Students will consider the total parts and see the link between this and the denominator of the equivalent fraction as well as stating the number of counters as a ratio.

Then, in section B learners are given three partially shaded rectangles and they then have to state fractions and ratios of the shaded and unshaded parts.

In section C, students are given three ratios which they will write as a fraction.

Lastly, pupils will use bar models to write fractions as ratios.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bar models provide a clear visual representation that makes the relationship between ratios and fractions much more concrete for learners. When pupils can see the parts divided within a bar, they can better grasp how the same mathematical relationship can be expressed in two different ways. This visual approach is particularly effective for Year 6 students as they develop more sophisticated mathematical reasoning skills.
