Subtracting from Multiples of 10 (A) WORKSHEET

Suitable for Year groups: Year 2
Learning objective: Subtract numbers using pictorial representations, and mentally, including two digit numbers and ones.

Subtracting from Multiples of 10 (A) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

The focus of Subtracting from Multiples of 10 (A) is on enabling learners to spot patterns when subtracting a single digit from a multiple of 10.

In section A, pupils will use number lines to complete four subtractions. Then in section B pupils will complete three subtraction wheels where they start with the number at the centre and subtract the outside of it. The emphasis here is on mental calculations. By now some learners may have already spotted a pattern, if not then after subtracting the same single digit from different multiples of 10 in section C, they will have!

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

This worksheet builds mental calculation confidence by encouraging children to recognise patterns rather than relying on written methods. The progression from number lines to subtraction wheels helps Year 2 learners gradually move away from pictorial representations towards mental strategies. When pupils spot that subtracting the same digit always gives predictable results, they can apply this understanding to solve similar problems quickly in their heads.
