Difference of Two Squares WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This Difference of Two Squares worksheet focuses on the concept of factorising algebraic expressions that are in the form of a² - b² and is an important tool for helping students develop their algebraic manipulation skills.

The problems range from simple expressions to those where a common factor must be taken out first and even expressions where the terms inside the brackets have a coefficient different to 1 or -1. There are sixteen questions over two sections and an extension too.

If more practice is required, see our worksheet Factorising Quadratic Expressions C.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students should have a solid understanding of square numbers and square roots before tackling these problems. This foundational knowledge is essential because recognising perfect squares within algebraic expressions is key to successfully applying the difference of two squares formula. Without this prerequisite understanding, pupils may struggle to identify which terms can be written as squares.
