Expanding Single Brackets WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet contains lots of practice expanding single brackets where students can use whichever method they chose. Questions are divided between four sections of six questions each, all that differ slightly.

All multipliers in the expressions in section A are constants. In section B, all multipliers are variables.

Next, section C consists of multipliers such as 3x and then, expressions in section D contain two variables. Positive and negative terms appear throughout all sections, and there is variety in the order of terms within the brackets.

Finally, section E will extend students as they complete an algebraic multiplication grid.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students should be comfortable with simplifying algebra and multiplying positive and negative numbers before tackling these expansion problems. These foundational skills are essential because they'll need to handle the variety of positive and negative terms that appear throughout all sections, as well as work confidently with algebraic expressions involving both constants and variables.
