Forming and Solving Linear Equations: aπ‘₯ = b and π‘₯/a = b WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet develops fluency in forming and solving linear equations of the forms π‘Žπ‘₯ = 𝑏 and π‘₯/π‘Ž = 𝑏, using real-life scenarios to make the maths meaningful. Learners focus on identifying whether a situation involves multiplication or division and representing it accurately with an equation.

In Section A, learners are given two scenarios and must choose the correct equation that models each one. Section B builds on this by asking them to select all the equations that represent each situation, including those showing the steps taken to solve the equation and the final answer.

In Section C, learners are required to form equations from four different contexts. Section D then challenges them to both form and solve equations for a further six scenarios, giving them the opportunity to apply their understanding independently and confidently.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

This resource is designed for Year 7 and Year 8 students who are developing their algebraic skills. It's particularly valuable for learners who have already mastered solving one step linear equations and are ready to tackle more complex scenarios involving multiplication and division in real-world contexts.
