Manipulating Fractions WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION
Build fluency with equivalent fractions while strengthening factorâmultiple reasoning with this worksheet.
Learners begin by filling in missing numerators in order to create equivalent fractions in question 1.
Over the next three questions, students will manipulate fractions so that they have specific denominators (24, 42, 60), encouraging efficient use of lowest common multiple rather than oversize products. The progression moves from unit fractions to cases where denominators exceed the target value.
Next, pupils are asked to multiply pairs of fractions so that they have the same denominator, selecting appropriate multiples independently. As a challenge, the final two pairs of fractions are algebraic.
To conclude, learners evaluate why multiplying by the other fractionâs denominator always works but is not always the most efficient method.
