Solving Equations - Unknowns are Indices WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Challenge higher tier pupils with this worksheet that’ll see them forming and solving linear equations based around the laws of indices. Split over three main sections, the worksheet will first of all see learners forming and solving one and two step linear equations without the need to use any index laws. Gradually basic index laws are woven in.

In section C, students are required to change the base of one or two terms before an equation can be formed.

Lastly, in section D pupils will use fractional and negative index laws.

Learners are encouraged to use substitution to check their answers throughout.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

This worksheet targets grades 6-7, making it suitable for students who have already mastered basic algebraic manipulation. The combination of linear equation solving with index laws requires solid foundational skills in both areas. Students should be comfortable with standard linear equations before attempting the more complex problems involving fractional and negative indices.
