Translations - from Column Vectors WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

With this translations worksheet, students will both describe translations using column vectors and translate objects by a given column vector.

In section A, students have nine sets of clearly labelled objects and images and they must describe the translation from one to the other using column vectors. The polygons vary from simple cuboid to star and quarter circle. Each question is on its own square grid.

Section B sees learners translating polygons by given column vectors. There are sixteen to complete, each on individual square grids. Students will translate in all four directions with some overlapping objects and images.

Ensure your students are equipped with a pencil and ruler to complete their translations.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students should already be comfortable with translation from worded directions before tackling column vectors. This foundational skill helps them understand the concept of moving shapes in specific directions and distances. Once they grasp this, the transition to expressing these movements as column vectors becomes much more manageable.
