Volume of a Cylinder WORKSHEET

Suitable for Year groups: Year 9, Year 10
GCSE Tier: Foundation/Higher
Targeting grades: 4-5
Prerequisite knowledge: Area of circles. Volume of cuboids and other prisms.
Learning Objective: Derive and apply formulae to calculate and solve problems involving volume of cylinders.

Volume of a Cylinder WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet provides focused practice on finding the volume of a cylinder.

Learners are given a reminder of how to calculate the area of a circle when provided with a radius or a diameter in section A. Here students will give answers to three significant figures and in terms of pi.

Then, in section B students will find the volume of 8 different cylinders. Again, students are given either a radius or a diameter of the cross section and are asked to write their answers in 2 decimal places or in terms of pi.

The challenge is ramped up in section C. Here pupils are faced with 6 problem solving questions such as, finding the height or radius of the cylinder when provided the volume.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students should be confident with calculating the area of circles, as this forms the foundation for finding cylinder volumes. They'll also benefit from previous experience with volume calculations for cuboids and other prisms, which helps them understand the general principle of multiplying base area by height.
