Solving Two Step Equations WORKSHEET

Suitable for Year groups: Year 6
Learning objective: Express missing number problems algebraically and solve algebraic problems.

Solving Two Step Equations WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet demonstrates through the use of examples, how bar models, function machines and algebra tiles can be used to aid learners when solving two step equations. A section is dedicated to each model and section D consists of three equations to be solved with students being encouraged to choose the model they use. Pupils will solve 10 equations in total.

For variation, learners will come across equations with the equals sign and variables in different places; however, none of the equations involve division. Two equations require students to operate with decimals.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your child will explore three different visual approaches: bar models, function machines, and algebra tiles. Each method provides a concrete way to represent abstract algebraic concepts, helping Year 6 students build confidence before moving on to more formal algebraic techniques. The worksheet dedicates separate sections to each approach so pupils can master them individually.
