This worksheet introduces students to the idea of equivalence in fractions using a variety of representations.
Section A asks students to state what fraction of each shape is shaded and then if they can identify any images which also show one half shaded. There is room for thought as students are asked "what do you notice?" thus encouraging students to think about how they can identify fractions equivalent to one-half in the future.
Section B takes this a step further by asking learners to shade in half 5 different images.
A fraction wall is introduced in section C to give students variety in the representation of fractions and enables them to see clearly how different fractions can be equivalent. This would be a good time to discuss any other equivalent fractions they can see.
Finally, in section D, students put all of their learning together to find fractions equivalent to one-half when they are given either a numerator or a denominator.
