Mutually Exclusive and Exhaustive Events WORKSHEET
Mutually Exclusive and Exhaustive Events WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION
Students will practice identifying mutually exclusive and exhaustive events whilst completing this worksheet. An essential skill for using the ‘sums to one’ rule.
Throughout section A, students will consider seven pairs of events and then state whether they are mutually exclusive, exhaustive, both or neither. Events include getting two prime numbers and two numbers that sum to four when rolling two dice.
In section B, a number from 1 - 50 is selected at random, students are given six events, such as “the number chosen is odd”, which are paired together for students to again state whether events are mutually exclusive, exhaustive, both or neither.
All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions
Students should be comfortable with calculating the probability of simple and single events before tackling this material. This foundation will help them understand why certain event pairs behave differently when we examine their relationships. Without this prerequisite knowledge, students may struggle to grasp the underlying probability concepts that make events mutually exclusive or exhaustive.
